This is the first day back

So I haven't blogged in ages. Been fairly busy, usually I'm too tired to be arsed about anything when I get home these days. But, I've got the two days off, some spare time, thought, why not?

So let's catch up on things.

Last month we drove to Nova Scotia. It's a hectic journey, 20 hours all told. There are very few signs on the Trans-Can going East, nothing telling you a BIG turn is up ahead. Lots of Moose signs though. Driving at night became a terrifying experience. It wasn't just raining, it felt like a flood had opened itself on the windshield of my car. Add to that a very exhausted body, little coffee, no signs, fear of moose, and I think you get the picture.

Once we arrived however, things couldn't have gone smoother. Got to meet Brooke's dad, which seemed to go well. Got to walk around Halifax, which was so laid back, very nice change of pace. After we returned, I began to realize how much I really needed that little vacation. I really slowed down for a good week and a half.

While we were there I picked up a copy of Lost on DVD. Watched it over three days. It's a good show. A really, friggin' good show. Ok. IT'S THE MOST AWESOME SHOW I'VE EVER WATCHED. Well, that may be going a bit overboard, but it certainly has possessed me for the time being.

The most exciting news is that I finally got to meet Neil Gaiman! He's such a nice guy. Very down to earth. He even made a little drawing in my copy of Stardust, which I'm very thankful for. Brooke was employed by me to take photographs of the event, so I'll wait until those are developed to tell the whole story of how it went. We sold a hell of a lot of books though.

The new Broken Social Scene album is awesome. As is the 40 Year Old Virgin (saw it with Brooke's folks in Bedford).

Books bought last month:
-Five books by John Bellairs featuring Anthony Monday and Johnny Dixon
-Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
-On Beauty by Zadie Smith
-Salt Roads by Nalo Hopkinson

Currently Reading:
-Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman (UK edition with several stories not published in North America)
-Does She or Doesn't She by Alisa Kwitney (as soon as Brooke hands it back)
-Daredevil Vol.4 written by Brian Michael Bendis art by Alex Maleev

More to come. no, really, I swear it this time :-)

1 Comments:

  • I just finished Smoke and Mirrors (NA version, obviously). It's the first of Gaiman's non-comic writing I've read, and I will now be going without new socks, and possibly certain foods, in order to obtain more.

Hope you're not still seeing moose warning signs in your sleep. :P
